Engaging Subpopulations of Clients Experiencing Homelessness and SMI or CODs series: Bridging Cultural and Social Lines

Individuals become homeless for a myriad of reasons, and each person has a unique combination of experiences, culture, and vulnerabilities. Meaningful engagement requires a foundation of understanding upon which to build. This webinar series will highlight commonalities among subpopulations of people experiencing homelessness who have SMI or CODs. Subject matter experts with real-world experience will offer strategies and tools for engaging older adults, families and young adults, victims of human trafficking, and people with histories that include criminal justice involvement.

The first webinar, “Bridging Cultural and Social Lines,” will feature strategies for engaging with clients who are experiencing homelessness and who have SMI or CODs. Without some self-examination, it can be difficult to identify our hidden biases. It can be uncomfortable to reach out to those who speak, look, work, or live differently than we do. And yet, it is worth the time and effort to see past obvious differences to identify similarities and points of shared interest. Participants will come away from this webinar with a different view of their clients, and perhaps even their agencies, practices, and themselves.
