Formalizing the Use of Teleservices in Drug Courts: Developing Effective Policies and Procedures
May 23 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Although technology has been utilized in drug courts for many years, there has been a significant increase in the use of teleservices as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sudden shift from in-person events led many drug courts to make adaptations and implement teleservices into their programs without any written guidelines or formal procedures to follow. As drug courts around the country contemplate the course of action for their operations and deliverance of treatment post-pandemic, there is a need for best practices and guidance around the utilization of teleservices. Policies and best practices have already begun to be drafted by some drug courts based on their lessons learned to guide the implementation of teleservices, as well as to provide support for drug court participants in their use of the technology.
This webinar will feature a presentation on developing policies and procedures for teleservices in drug courts. There will also be a discussion on ensuring privacy of drug court participants as well as encouraging appropriate participation in the delivery of teleservices. A presentation will follow to provide a local perspective on what the process looked like to develop meaningful policies and procedures in practice.
