Strength at Home: A Trauma-Informed, Evidence-Based IPV Intervention for Veterans and Civilians My Webinar
October 1 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This talk will focus on the problem of intimate partner violence (IPV) in trauma-exposed populations and provide a review of the Strength at Home program, the only such program shown effective in randomized controlled trials for military veterans. The speaker will discuss the theoretical model for the program with a particular focus on how trauma may increase the risk of violence and abuse. This discussion will also focus on common risk factors for IPV, such as posttraumatic stress disorder, head injury, substance abuse, and core themes that may underlie trauma and abusive relationship behavior. The discussion then shifts to a description of the Strength at Home program as well as scientific evidence for the intervention. Issues related to how the program enhances client motivation for change and facilitates personal responsibility taking will also be covered, as will more logistical elements of program implementation across veteran and civilian contexts.
