This PowerPoint addresses the question “Are Family Dependency Treatment Courts (FDTC) Effective?” by looking at 2 studies and sites in 6 different cities: Baltimore City, Hartford, San Diego, Santa Clara, Suffolk, and Washoe. The discussion is broken down into 4 major components that discuss the effectiveness of this program in different regions: (1) outcome analysis, (2) Black Box analysis, (3) qualitative parent interviews, and (4) cost study. The presentation shows that families have more positive treatment and child welfare outcomes, retention of families in FTDC programs is important to success, FTDC influence on child welfare recidivism needs additional data and research, and reduced time in foster care during and after the child welfare case may result in potential fiancial savings for the program.
