This document provides information with the goal of helping states, regions, and communities to ascertain the nature and extent of problems and resources that affect the well-being of youth in their area. Written in conjunction with the National Institute on Drug Abuse, their aim is to select the best science-based approaches for addressing particular prevention needs. The purpose of this monograph is to document the growing practices of monitoring the well-being of children and adolescents, with the hope of assisting prevention scientists and practitioners in furthering the practice of monitoring child and adolescent well-being. Its recommendations defines the next steps that must be taken if the full promise of this practice is to come to fruition.
