This report examines the issue of substance abuse through a public health issue and pushes for reform on the way the United States handles drug enforcement. In addition, this report provides a history of drug courts an evaluation of their function and usefulness in treating those with substance use disorers. The report also summarizes the history and evolution of drug courts, evaluates their operation and effectiveness, and makes recommendations for the future direction of drug courts.
